This weeks blog is addressing the questions and comments I get on an almost daily basis and my thoughts and answers to them. It’s really easy to feel intimidated by exercising, starting a new class, PT or just a new fitness kick. Hopefully after this blog, you will realise that 90% off all my clients feel the same. I am here to answer your questions, put your mind at rest and make you realise that you can achieve you fitness goals if you put your mind to it.
1.I am really unfit, will I be able to do the session?
My answer, unless you have a specific injury or illness, is always YES. My sessions are always tailored to the individual so we work at your level, whether you are a fully fledged athlete or a complete newbie, we can always workout in a safe and effective way.
2. How quickly will I see results from our sessions?
This is one of the most common questions I get, and its completely normal. Now this is completely dependent on what results you are wanting. If you are wanting to get fitter and stronger then we will see improvements week on week. This will be improved greatly if you ae practicing the techniques I have taught you in your sessions. If the results you want are weight or physique related, then this is completely dependent on you and your lifestyle. I am not a miracle worker and I would never lie that 1 session a week is going to make you lose the stone you are so desperate to lose. However if you combine our session with a balanced diet and improved activity levels throughout the rest of the week then you will definitely see great improvement and start seeing results. In terms of time frame, it is completely down to the individual, everyone is different but I aim to get everyone the best results I physically can.
3. Can I still train if I’m injured?
It is completely dependent on the injury, but ultimately, yes. If you have a sore shoulder, we can focus more on lower body exercises and visa versa. If you are suffering from a small niggle, we will work together to work out whether you just need to rest it or whether we can find alternative ways to work without exacerbating the injury. So ultimately it is something we will discuss and workout what is in your best interests.
4. Why do you not offer cheap session deals?
Personal training is my job. I have to make money from it or I wouldn’t be able to live. I have tried to price myself in the best and most accessible way however with each session, I have to pay fees to the gym and my travel costs as standard. I also do not just turn up, make a session on the spot and train you. I put a lot of effort and work in behind the scenes to create the best and most interesting programme for you, one that you will both enjoy and see the best results from. This means a lot of admin time away from the gym just prepping sessions etc. These are just some of the reasons that I am priced the way I am.
5. Is there anything I can do to benefit my body?
I always say to my clients to be honest with themselves when assessing their diets. Try to eat a healthy, balanced and portion controlled diet. This is the minimum thing that I expect my clients to attempt. On top of that, practicing the exercises at home to work on technique etc will really save so much time within the sessions. The final thing is to remember to keep moving throughout the week.
6. Why do I exercise?
Many of my clients have asked me how I got into this line of work and why I exercise, what I like to do at the gym and the benefits I think I get from exercising. In all honestly, exercise and fitness is something I have always been passionate about and I also love to help people and see them grow in confidence and progress. This made personal training a pretty easy choice for me. I always say to people that I want to be able to live a fit healthy life without being incredible at only one thing. I want to be able to run, to squat, to jump and play sport. For me fitness is about treating your body well as we only have one body and it deserves to be respected and kept fit and healthy. So everything I do is to enjoy my life and be able to feel good and move well. However boring that sounds, for me personal training sessions are one of the best investments you can make, to be able to learn and eventually go off on your own and train in the most effective way for your body.
So there we go, a very long rambling post but hopefully insightful. In my experience, most clients come in with very similar questions and nothing is ever too silly to ask.
